10 Creative Handmade Gift Ideas for Mom this Mother’s Day

1. Fabric flowers from Purple Twig Studio

These fabric flowers are made similar to paper mache. We offered the children many different varieties of pre-cut gigantic petal shaped fabric to choose from. Those were dipped into fabric stiffener and laid onto balloons. I bet you could also use diluted Mod Podge.

I also used chopsticks with wire wrapped around them to make the stigma.  I love the black paper to make the stamen. That’s Bonnie’s great idea from Make-It-Your-Own-Blog. It stands out beautifully and graphically against the colorful petals.

I remember decoupaging jars as a kid. It’s such a fun way to brighten & decorate glass jars from the recycling bin. And those coffee filter flowers are beautiful additions that create such a colorful gift for mom.

“We laid the filter onto a balloon and then painted it using diluted acrylic paint (diluted so much that it looks like watercolor paint). We then layered another coffee filter on top and painted that one. Once dried we added a chopstick through the middle and attached fringed paper to make the stamen.”
